Bangkok II Day Two (II)

After a short nap from the late lunch, we decided to try something more adventurous and lavish for our dinner. We took the sky-train and headed to
Sukhumvit Soi 24 – Seafood Market and Restaurant – “IF IT SWIMS, WE HAVE IT”.

As we approach this brightly-lit restaurant, the first sight we notice was the dozens of chefs operating in the open kitchen concept, cooking energetically for the diners inside.

Once we stepped into the place, we could sense immediately that the dinner it is gonna cost us an arm and a limb. Ladies lined up at the side of the red carpet to greet us and briefed the “rules” in broken English on how the restaurant operates. Basically, you have to think of the venue as a supermarket where you buy your ingredients and then a restaurant where they cook your ingredients for you.

So before you pick your food, you have to start deciding your menu for the night. With a 50m long selection of fresh seafood to choose from, it is truly an orgasmic experience for all foodie and wannabe chefs.

We bought ½ dozen of fresh oysters, 2 king prawns, 1 squid and 1 crab, and we proceed to the fresh produce area for some veggies and mushrooms.

We then sat down on our table where I instructed them to have the oysters eaten fresh, the king prawns barbequed, the squid deep fried, the crab steamed, and the veggies to be fried with the mushrooms.

We waited eagerly as to how our dishes would turn out and the 1st dish didn’t disappoint us. The oysters were big and fresh and left us craving for more.

But the rest of the dishes were quite disappointing, considering we paid premium dollars for it. The squid were rather tasteless if not for the lemon dip that came along with it.

As for the king prawns, it was steamed before it got barbequed as prawn head was watery and lacked the charred taste as compared to the one we paid 70 Baht for in Suan Lum Night Bazaar.

The crab and veggies was normal and nothing to brag about, though I have to add that service was excellent, considering that there were 3 waitresses hovering around our table.

Total damage for the night - a whopping 3000 Baht!!!
